Graveside services in her honor will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Buffalo Gap Cemetery in Buffalo Gap, Texas.
Joyce was born on January 9, 1946, in San Angelo, Texas. She was one of four children born to the late Leon Pierce Gary and Wilma Ozell (Cox) Gary. Joyce’s father was a homebuilder and the family moved around a lot with his work. She spent many of her years in Buffalo Gap and attended Wylie High School. She enjoyed her upbringing as a “farm girl”. She eventually settled in Denton, planted roots and raised her family. Having moved so much when she was young, she wanted her sons to enjoy the benefits of staying in one place. The family was longtime residents of the Taylor Park Community where they attend Taylor Park Church of the Nazarene in the early years.
She relished taking care of her sons, providing care and nurture. In their adult lives she enjoyed calling just checking in. Her love grew even more once she had grandchildren. She was truly the rock of her family. She worked for many years as an administrative assistant at Texas Woman's University.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Janice Marie (Gary) Pettit and her former-in-laws, J.T and Juanita Watts.
She is survived by her son, Denny William Watts, Jr. and his wife Melodie Shepherd and Rodney Alan Watts and his husband Tom Morris; grandchildren, Taylor Watts, Angelica Cobb, Addison Robinson, Kaitlyn Watts, Jacob Watts and Justin Mcleod; great-grandchildren, Kaelynn Williams, Aurora Robinson, Maverick Cobb, Birdie Cobb, Sunday Cobb, William Watts, Kinley Mcleod, Chance Mcleod, Dallas Mcleod and Easton Mcleod; brothers, Don and Wayne Gary; other relatives and friends.
