Kay was born on September 1, 1937 in Barrow in Furness, England. She was the second of six children born to her loving parents, the late John William Noel Newstead and Katherine Maria Clarissa Frances Elizabeth (McLaren) Newstead. After WWII, the family moved to Brain Tree, where she eventually met and married Dominick Nicholas Procopio, Jr. who was stationed there with the Air Force. Being the daughter of an Officer of England’s Royal Navy, she fit into the role of a military wife perfectly. She devoted herself to setting up the home during many different moves while her husband served the country. She was truly a member of military wives described as the silent ranks. After being acclimated to civilian life she and Dominick relocated from Pennsylvania to Abilene in 1983 where they established roots. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, cooking, and taking rides with her husband. However, nothing could match the feeling she had when surrounded by all seven of her children and all of her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her open heart full of love, and her acceptance of everyone she encountered.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Knupple, and Jillian Archer; son-in-law, Matthew Ingalls; and several grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband; Dominick N. Procopio, Jr.; her children, Louise Rebuck and her husband, Brad, Kay Procopio, Teresa Kemp and her husband, Lee, Helen Hopkins, and her husband Mike, Stephen Procopio and his wife, Rosemary, Laura Ingalls, and Michael Procopio and his wife, Kathi; grandchildren, Stephanie, Megan, Olivia, Jacob, Ashley, Jessica, Clarissa, Nicholas, and Emily; great-grandchildren, Avery, Aaron, and Adrenalynn; 3 sisters, Elisabeth Wright and her husband David, Jennifer Waddell, and Anne Todd; a host of loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Hendrick Hospice or to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
