Lady Jane was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a wonderful life and always the sweetest disposition in everything she did. Lady Jane was loved by everyone that came into her life.
Lady Jane was born on October 18th, 1923, in Merkel, Texas to Isbell and Jetty Toombs Anderson. She grew up in Abilene, Tx. and graduated from Abilene High School. As a freshman at Hardin-Simmons University, Lady Jane was referred to as “Goldilocks” in an article in the Abilene Reporter News written about the Blue Bonnet Brigade, an organization of Abilene girls bussed to Camp Barkeley for the 45th Division dances. Her beauty and charm, along with other members of the Brigade, lifted the spirits of soldiers before they left for war abroad.
Lady Jane married Lt. John W. Franklin, Jr, a B-24 pilot in the Army Air Corps who was killed in action on Dec. 2, 1944 over Germany. She later married Lavon M. Young and they lived most of their sixty four years together in Abilene, Tx. They seldom missed an opportunity to dance to an orchestra and travel the world with their good friends. Lady Jane and Lavon would often dance the night away at the Petroleum Club or Country Club, unless, of course, they were on a cruise.
Lady Jane was a member of First Central Presbyterian Church and resided at Lyndale Abilene Senior Living prior to her residency at Morada Senior Living during her last few years. The family wishes to acknowledge the love and support given by the staff of Morada Senior Living. Their special care of Miss. Lady was so appreciated, especially in her last few months.
Lady Jane was preceded in death by her husband, L.M. Young, as well as her parents and two sisters, Bobbie Lou Gee and Natalie McIver. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Carol Young. Survivors include her son, Gary A. Young of Abilene; daughter Nancy Wilkinson and husband Lynn of Abilene; four grandchildren, Randy Young and wife Tiffany of San Marcos, Tx, Andrea Key and husband Simon of Frisco, Tx, Byron Wilkinson and wife Sherry of Austin, Tx, and Shanna Crain and husband Jeff of Sugar Land, Tx. along with eight great grandchildren.
