

LaVelle Edwards Terry, 89, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 in Garland, TX after an extended illness. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013 in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Sweetwater, TX under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene
Mrs. Terry was born in Fisher County on January 14, 1924. She was one of six girls, a twin, born to Altha (Freeman) and Harvey Edwards. She married Valton Terry in Roby, Texas in 1939.
LaVelle and Valton were cotton farmers in the Busby Community for many years. LaVelle was a daily at Smitty’s Drug Store in Sweetwater, TX visiting friends and having lunch. She also enjoyed visiting friends at West Texas Barber & Beauty Shop. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Valton Terry; grandson, Billy Smith; son-in-law, Dwayne Bryant; and her five sisters.
Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Smith of Mesquite, TX, and Mickey Bryant of Dubach, LA; her grandchildren, Heather Smith of Ft. Worth, TX, Keith Thompson of Nebraska, Gwen Bryant Herring and husband, David, of Dubach, LA, Linda Bryant Smith of Glen Heights, TX, and Misty Bryant Weinstein and husband, Norman of Mesquite, TX; six great-grandchildren, John Thompson of Nebraska, David Wayne Herring of Monroe, LA, Cody Herring Nealy and husband, Bud of Shreveport, LA, Kristin Weinstein of San Antonio, TX, Kelsey Smith of North Richland Hills, TX, and Blake Smith of Glen Heights, TX; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
