Lela was born on September 25, 1959, in Midland, Texas, to the late Bishop Richard Collins and Nellie Collins. She grew up surrounded by a loving family and strong faith, values that guided her throughout her life.
On December 6, 1981, Lela married the love of her life, Edward McNealy, and together they shared nearly 44 beautiful years of marriage. From this union came two cherished daughters, Sandra McNealy and Candice McNealy.
Lela was affectionately known as “Sister Mac” to her church family. A devoted member of Bethel Church of God in Christ for over 40 years, she was recognized for her radiant smile, expressive personality, and unwavering faith. Her love for God and others was evident in all she did.
Lela dedicated much of her career to caring for others. She worked for more than 20 years at the Day Nursery of Abilene, where she touched countless young lives, and later served in Taylor County Records, retiring after 15 years of faithful service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bishop Richard and Nellie Collins, her sister Mary Brown, and her brother Richard Collins.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Edward McNealy; daughters Sandra McNealy and Candice McNealy; grandchildren Brittany McNealy, Malia Williams, Amya Williams, and Amir Williams; Mother in love Effie Brewster, sisters Helen Thomas, Rose Brown, Irene Oates (Earl), Mildred Collins; brother Ellis Collins (Mary); sister-in-love Jean Barber (Marvin); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church members, and dear friends who will forever remember her love, laughter, and faith.
Lela’s life was a reflection of grace, devotion, and joy. Her beautiful spirit will live on through the many lives she touched.
A visitation for Lela will be held Friday, October 31, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606. A Homegoing Celebration will occur Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Bethel Church of God in Christ, 634 Cottonwood St, Abilene, TX 79601. A committal service will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
