Lane was born on December 27 to John and Clovis in Edna Hill, TX. After high school, Lane joined the US Navy where he spent four years learning his skills in Aircraft Maintenance.
In 1961, Lane met Linda at a local hangout around Ingleside, TX. Lane and Linda went on to have two children, Gary Lane Brooks and Linda Kay Summers.
After Lane retired from CCAD in 1995, they moved to Abilene where he built a house and enjoyed tearing down and rebuilding machinery in his garage as well as travel.
Lane was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Allen Brooks. He is survived by his brother Douglas, wife of 62 years Linda, son Gary (Marlaina) Brooks, grandsons Evan Brooks and Andrew (Julianna) Brooks, and great granddaughter Delaney; as well as his daughter Linda (Mark) Summers, granddaughters Lara (Joel) Clarke and Bethany (Rudy) Hernandez; and great grandsons Titus, Micah, and Asher.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Elliott Hamil Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Elliott Hamil Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
