

Lila Mae Kirklen, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 17, 2012, in Abilene. Graveside services will be 2:00p.m., Friday, December 21, 2012 in Hamby Cemetery, under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:30 to 7:30p.m. at the funeral home.
Lila was born on June 28, 1925 to Jim and Emma Mae Alley Selman in Fife, Texas. She attended school and was a Brady High School graduate. Lila married Wayne Kirklen on January 19, 1940 and enjoyed 68 years of marriage until his passing on November 12, 2008.
Lila had worked as a cook in the cafeteria at HSU and had also worked for Aileen’s Manufacturing until its closing. Lila was known for her gardening skills because of her roses and her beautiful yard. She was a great seamstress and an amazing cook as well.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Wayne; one daughter, Kay Gist; six brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include her son Bobby Kirklen and wife, Glenda of Clyde; daughters, Patsy Miller and husband, Jerry of Eastland, and Betty Edwards and husband, Grady of Clyde; two brothers, Elvis Selman and wife, Ann of The Woodlands, and Earl Selman and wife, Barbara of Spring, TX; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice, 1682 Hickory St., Abilene, TX 79601.
