Lou “Jane” Bell, 63, of Abilene passed away on Thursday December 6, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday December 11, 2018 at Hillcrest Church of Christ with burial following in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 5 to 7:30pm on Monday evening at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, located at 542 Hickory St. Jane was born on September 9, 1955 to John and Doris Allen. She grew up and graduated from high school in Longview, Texas. She then relocated to Abilene, where she attended ACU while earning her bachelor’s degree. Jane married her husband, Joe, on August 28, 1976. The following year, she began her teaching career and in 1985, she started teaching 2nd grade at Johnston Elementary, where she remained until her retirement in 2012. Jane loved her students and was a favorite teacher among them. She also loved music and was very skilled at cross stitching. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lyn Holly Bell; and brother, John A. Allen. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Joe Bell; daughter, Dr. Erin Garner and husband Chris; her grandsons, Ethan, Ryan and Grant Garner; brother, Fred J. Allen; and sisters, Barbara Gould and Peggy Lawson and husband David. The family would like to express their appreciation for very special person and caretaker, Debbie Corley and Hospice of the Big Country. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Big Country.
