

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011, in Elmwood Memorial Park, with Reverend Amy Wilson officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
"Skeet" was born February 16, 1920 in Abilene, Texas, the daughter of W. Dan Smith and Bennie Mays Roberts Smith. She was the grandchild of one of Abilene's earliest founders, Hugh Bunn Smith. Skeet was raised on the family ranch in Coleman County, Texas. She attended the one room school house at Goldsboro, Texas and graduated from Hardin-Simmons College (now University) in 1942. She was a trick roping artist, a member of the Cowgirl Band, a member of the tennis and golf teams, and also became one of the first women licensed pilots in Texas.
Skeet married Frank M. Dunlap, Jr. in Washington, D.C. in 1942. They resided in Midland, Texas where they owned and operated the Dun-Bar Studio for 22 years. During that time, she was a top women's golfer and Midland Women's Amateur City Champion in 1964.
Retiring to Garland, Texas where she had resided since 1976, she was a member of the Sherrill Park and Spring Creek Ladies Golf Clubs continuing to play golf well into her 80's. Skeet was an avid traveler and a terrific dancer. She was a loving wife and devoted mother, well loved by her family and many friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Dennis Dunlap; a brother, W.D. Smith; and her dear sister, Danie Mays Aldridge.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel C. Dunlap of Dallas, Texas, Douglas L. Dunlap, Sr. of Plano, Texas, and Francis Clark Dunlap and wife Lori, of Katy, Texas; a daughter, Cynthia Sue Dunlap Owens of Garland, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Tammy Franks and husband Bill of Midland, TX, Danielle Dunlap of Plano, TX, Douglas L. Dunlap, Jr. of Austin, TX, Denise Dunlap of Dallas, TX, Marisa Barrie and husband Paul of Naples, Italy, Elizabeth Henry of San Antonio, Valerie Ward and husband Harrison of Flower Mound, TX, Walter Dunlap of Katy, TX, John F. Dunlap of Katy, TX, Douglas Owens and wife Amy Danielle of Paris, TX, and Amy Seres of Mesquite, TX; ten great-grandchildren; and Bernard Dunlap of Spring, TX, who was loved as a son.
