Lucy Garcia

Services celebrating her life will take place on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at 12:00 Noon until time of service. She will be laid to rest next to her sister at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene privately.

Lucy was born on August 22, 1958, in Lubbock, Texas to the late Jose Garcia and Irene (Salas) Garcia. She was raised in a loving Christian home. Her family was longtime and devoted members of the Colgate Church of Christ where Lucy spent much of her time. While living in Lubbock Lucy attended Ballenger Day program and participated in the Special Olympics in Austin.

She enjoyed the attention and care of being born into a large family. Lucy was very affectionate and loved hugs. She could be found holding her precious little ”Darling” and coloring in her books. After the passing of her mother, Lucy moved to Abilene where she resided with her sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Lewis. Lucy attended church with her sister at Baker Heights Church of Christ. Lucy was a special and bright light in her family. Her smile and unforgettable laugh will be remembered for generations.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Juanita Maness and three brothers, Joe Jr., Reyes, and Terry Garcia.

Lucy is survived by her sisters, Guadalupe Rodriguez and Dominga Castillo (Jimmy); brothers, Francisco (Emma), Ramon, and Javier Garcia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
