

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Margaret Evelyn “Peggy” Johnson, who departed this life peacefully on May 30, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by the love of her family. Peggy was born in Chepachet, Rhode Island on October 4,1932 to the late John and Ruth May (Wade) Hutnak. She was raised in Pascoag, Rhode Island where she graduated from Burrillville High in 1950.
Peggy was a woman of extraordinary strength, faith, love, and perseverance. Throughout her life, she touched countless hearts with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family, friends, church, and community.
She lived a remarkable life filled with adventure, service, and purpose. As a military spouse, she traveled across the country supporting her family, and later dedicated 35 years of service to Stephens Memorial Hospital. Even into her 90’s Peggy remained active, independent, and deeply involved in her church and community. She was a longtime devoted member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Many were blessed by her handmade crocheted and knitted gifts, sewing for her grandchildren, enjoyed watching her clogging performances, or cherished hearing stories from the many chapters of her life. She found joy in serving others and never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand. Above all, she loved her family fiercely and took great pride in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Peggy will be remembered for her quiet strength, humble spirit, steadfast faith, and loving heart. Her wisdom, humor, and unconditional love created a legacy that will continue through the generations she leaves behind.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Albert Hutnak; special aunt, Anna Hutnak; cousin, Freddy Hutnak;sister -in-law, Juditha McBride, son-in-law, Bill Day; and daughter-in-law, Donna McBride.
She is survived by her children, David McBride and wife Nancy, Danny McBride, Linda Romack and husband Toby, and Debbie Jones and husband Darrel; along with her 20 grandchildren,37 great-grandchildren,14 great-great-grandchildren, extended family members, and many dear friends. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Ruth L. Hutnak; one brother-in-law, Gerald “Skip” McBride; 3 nieces, 1 nephew, as well as many family friends who knew her as “Granny”.
While our hearts ache with her loss, we find comfort in knowing she lived a full and beautiful life and is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
Visitation will be held at Abilene Baptist Church, 5601 Hartford St, Abilene, TX 79605, US, on June 4, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.
A Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 am at the church with Avery Barney officiating. A Committal Service will be held at Breckenridge Cemetery, 1301 E. Elliott St, Breckenridge, TX 76424, US, on June 4, 2026, at 1:30 pm with President Kevin Crepes officiating.
