Marian Adelia Surratt

Born August 19, 1928 in Malakoff, Texas to Lonnie Carroll and Lura McIntyre Hanks. Adelia married Vernon Surratt, the love of her life, May 13,1946, in Benton,L.A. Adelia and Vernon met in the drug store she was working when she was 17 years old and it was love at first site. They were married 56 wonderful years and were blessed with four beautiful children. Adelia was a wife, mother, Mema, an amazing homemaker. Her passion in life was her family, cooking and baking. She especially loved baking pound cakes for her family, friends and neighbors. Adelia was an incredible seamstress and spent hours and hours making quilts and Christmas stockings for all her family. She truly was the heart and soul of her family. Adelia is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Vernon Surratt Jr., one grandson, Bryan Keith Brown and one sister, Gladys Woodall. She is survived by her son, Carroll Surratt of Abilene, two daughters, Barbara Ann Surratt of Abilene and Phyllis and husband Scott Thane of Odessa; one sister, Juanita Wilkes of Arlington, Texas.

Six grandchildren, Nikki Gray and husband Brian, Codie Surratt Casper and husband Tim, Amy Brown and fiancé Randy Lane, Tasha Starks and husband Michael, Dustin Thane and wife Amy, and Ashlee Smith and husband J.P. Nine great-grandchildren, Tate Starks, Emma Gray, Kooper Brown, Hannah Thane, Eli Thane, Ellie Thane, Nicholas Gray, Anna Starks and Adalee Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 5, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. Services will be held, on Friday, February 6 at 2:00 pm at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith with burial following at Elmwood Memorial Park.
