Funeral Services celebrating her beautiful life will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 Hwy. 277 S. in Abilene. Interment will be held at 2:00 PM at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, family and friends can gather at the cemetery starting at 1:45pm. The family will receive guest for a visitation on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 5-7PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
Fay as she was affectionately known was born on August 12, 1948 in Union, Texas to the late Jim Gonzales and Odessel Lillie (Snow) Gonzales. Fay grew up in Anson on a farm where she gained a strong work ethic at a young age. She loved her mother deeply and was a devoted daughter. She married the love of her life David Leroy Funk on September 27, 1972. Together they raised their family in Abilene. where she lived for many years. Fay loved to watch her westerns, dance, play cards, and have a good time with those she loved. She was at her happiest when others were laughing and enjoying themselves. Fay possessed genuine honesty, you always knew where you stood with Fay. Life did not always give Fay the best of circumstances but with determination, a little sass, and a whole lot of love she overcame each trial. She loved hard and left an imprint of the lives of those she leaves behind.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, David Leroy Funk; 2 children, Vicky Anne McCollum, and Shelby Cooper; and sister Bertha Jackson.
She leaves to cherish precious memories her devoted daughter and care giver, Kimberly Williams; her son, Billy McCollum and his wife, Trina; grandchildren, David McCollum, Odessel Fay Renee Funk, Lorenzo DiAngelo Williams, Megan McCollum, Jennifer, and Jessica McCollum; brother, Jimmy Gonzales and his wife Shirley; sister, Lillie Hale and her husband Billy Hale; sister at heart, Pat Cook and special niece, Eva Daniels and her husband Ricky; a devoted former son-in-law, Calvin Jones; numerous other special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
