Martha Anne “Marty” Marshall McKissack passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019 in Abilene, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, January 18, 2019 at Brookhollow Christian Church with Rev. Penny Biddy officiating. The family will receive friends in the Narthex following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy. 277 in Abilene.
Marty was born February 25, 1932 to R.C. & Velma Marshall in Palo Pinto, Texas. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1950, and after graduation, attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas.
On November 4, 1950, Marty married her high school sweetheart, Tommy McKissack, whose Naval service took them to the East & West coasts of the U.S.
They moved to Abilene in 1967 and built their business, McKissack Appliance & TV, located at South 14th and Barrow Streets. Marty was known for her love of people, which was her business philosophy and lifestyle. Marty and Tommy wrote the scripts for their television commercials that Marty so enjoyed making. With their business, they travelled internationally and made many friends.
Marty played the piano and sang beautifully, using her talents to teach children in Sunday Schools and Vacation Bible Schools throughout the years.
She was a member of Brookhollow Christian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Along with her parents, Marty was proceeded in death by her brothers, Cougar and Hollis.
She is survived by her husband Tommy, children Tommy (Darla) McKissack, Cherie McKissack, Cindy McKissack, Cheryl McKissack Niblo, grandchildren Eddie (Stephani) McKissack, Diane (Ishmael) Martinez, Thia (Rowdy) Lee-Buell, Elizabeth (Wilson) Wallace, Catherine (Cole) Brabham, and Will Hawkins, along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
