Today my heart is hurting cause I have to say good bye to my Dad. I still can't believe it. I can no longer call him and hear his voice or tell him I love him. There will be no more pain where he is going. He has received his wings. Both my Grandmother's, my mom,and Uncle Willie are there waiting for him at the pearly gate to welcome him home. To know my dad is to love him. He was an amazing father to all 5 of us and we appreciate everything he has done for us. He was always loving and understanding. When I was 13 & pregnant, he never ever made me feel like he disappointed in me. He was supportive and always showed me unconditional love!
I was so blessed to have this man ad my father. I love you so much daddy. Nothing but respect for him. You will be missed but never forgotten. He is one in a million. Best father ever. You will forever live within me.

I RODE WITH MELVIN IN HIS GOODWILL TRUCK FOR 1 1/2 YEARS BEFORE HE HAD TO LEAVE DUE TO ILLNESS. WE GOT TO KNOW EACH OTHER PRETTY GOOD, SPENDING EIGHT HOURS A DAY TOGETHER. HE COULD BE A PAIN IN THE REAR SOMETIMES WITH HAVING TO HAVE EVERYTHING DONE HIS WAY, BUT HE TAUGHT ME THE ROPES AND WE HAD SOME GOOD LAUGHS ON THE ROAD LISTENING TO HIS JAZZ MUSIC ALL DAY. HE HELPED ME OUT GIVING ME A RIDE HOME AFTER WORK WHILE MY CAR WAS BROKE DOWN. I DIDN'T HAVE TO ASK, HE OFFERED BECAUSE HE KNEW MY SITUATION. HIS WORK ETHIC AND DEDICATION AT WORK WAS A REAR SIGHT. TOO BAD MORE PEOPLE AREN'T LIKE HIM. HIS LOVE AND RESPECT FOR HIS WIFE WAS SEEN WHEN HE TALKED OF LIZ. HE LOVED HIS CHILDREN AND STEP CHILDREN NO MATTER WHAT, EVEN IF HE DIDN'T APPROVE ALL THE TIME. HE ALWAYS ENCOURAGED ME TO BE HAPPY AND DO MY BEST. IT WAS A TRUE HONOR TO GET TO KNOW MELVIN. I KNOW HE HAD PLANS OF FULLY RETIRING THIS APRIL, OUR LORD JUST WANTED HIM TO HAVE HIS RETIREMENT IN HEAVEN. I WILL MISS HIM

My grandpa was the best man a person could ask for. I remember him driving to Wichita Falls for my high school graduation, sending random cards, and always being so welcoming to us when we would come to Abilene. We love him more than he will ever understand, I’ll miss the phone calls & pictures we would send send to each other. I love you forever & then some-love you always Papa Melvin.
