Merilyn Rae Cantrell, 90, of Abilene, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023 in Abilene.
She was born on November 11, 1932 in McFarland, Kansas to the late Ralph John and Adetha Anderson John. Merilyn was a Civil Service worker at Dyess Air Force Base for 30+ years and attended Southwest Park Baptist Church for over 50 years. She sang with the “Sweet Adelines” and “Ginger Snaps” for many years and had a love of music and gardening.
She is survived by her children, Victor Cantrell and wife Terri of Baird, TX, Betsy Cantrell of Abilene, Curtis Cantrell and wife Valarie of Cleburne, TX, Paul Cantrell and wife Donna of Lebanon, MO and Mitzi Gonzales of Abilene; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Letha Duling and her husband Dean.
A visitation will be from 6:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 US Hwy 277 South, Abilene, TX. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 24, 2023 at Southwest Park Baptist Church in Abilene with Mike Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Victor Cantrell, Curtis Cantrell, Paul Cantrell, Aaron Cantrell, Caleb Cantrell and Adrian Gonzales.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southwest Park Baptist Church Missions.
