Michael Boyd Newberry

Michael Boyd Newberry, 19, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013, in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Church of Christ in Merkel, TX with Lou David Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6 to 8p.m. at the funeral home.

Michael was born on November 22, 1993 to Michael Shayne Newberry and Pamela Morris Legate in Abilene, TX. He graduated from Merkel High School in 2012 and attended McMurry College and Cisco College. Michael worked as a graphic designer and loved his work.

He loved sports, and was active in any and every sport imaginable. He was a dare devil. Michael loved to dance. He greeted everyone with a big smile and a hug. He was always doing the little things to make you smile and he loved with his whole heart. He loved his family and friends, never met a stranger, and would help anyone in need. Michael was a loving and giving person and even in his passing was able to save at least four lives by being an organ donor.

Preceding him in death were his great-grandfathers, Boyd Lakey, Amos Morris, and B.V. Newberry; and great-grandmothers, Mary Newberry and Ella Morris.

Survivors include his father, Michael Shayne Newberry and wife, Melissa; his mother, Pamela Legate and husband, John; a son, Bradley Hunter Newberry; three brothers, Tyler Newberry, Austin Bustamante, and Cody Legate; two sisters, Reagan Bustamante and Shelby Legate; grandparents, Sam and Barbara Hansen, Annie and Terry Boyd, Van and Ann Newberry, Virginia Keith, Randy Legate, Sr., and Jerry and Jeanie Claxton; great-grandparents, Hartines Lakey and Ann and W.L. Massey; aunts and uncles, Rick and Stacey Herring, Gary and Amanda Morris, and Truman Carey; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
