Millicent "Mimi" Barrett, 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 26, 2016 with her daughter by her side. A memorial service will be held at 1:00p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene, TX. Millicent was born to George B. Snell and Dorothea Berwind on November 8, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She married David Barrett, Sr. on February 2, 1961 in Philadelphia. Being a military wife, she traveled many places while raising four children. Millicent (now affectionately known as Mimi) worked in the administration capacity for the Social Security Office for 24 years and retired in 1997. Mimi loved to play her guitar, write songs and sing. She was known to be the life of the party, outlasting everyone and on occasion singing until the sun rose the next morning. Mimi also loved to go to the casinos and play the poker slot machines. She would pick a machine and stay faithfully on it the whole time she was at the casino. Mimi loved her faithful companion Daisy, and just spending the day watching TV or sitting out in her backyard was enough to make her happy. She was a strong spirited woman with a heart of gold and we will miss our Mimi dearly.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and a grandson. Survivors include her four children, Donna Verastegui and husband, Martin of Abilene, Gordon Barrett of Phoenix, Paula Barrett of Huntington Beach, CA, and David Barrett, Jr. and wife, Stacy of Abilene; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her brother, George Snell and his wife, Elaine of Ohio.
The family would like to thank all of the Hendrick Hospice Staff for their loving care and attention to our Mimi during her last few weeks.
