

Moia Giles, Jr., 80, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at an Abilene nursing facility under hospice care. Funeral services will be 2:00p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013 in the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory St. with burial following in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 to 7p.m. at the funeral home located at 542 Hickory.
Moia was born in Bay City, Texas on September 26, 1932 to Moia Giles, Sr. and Juliette Giles. He attended Van Vleck Herman High School and later joined the United States Air Force in 1953. He always had an infatuation with airplanes which he learned to fly. Whenever he would fly home to Bay City he would try to take everyone for a ride.
Moia spent 23 years in the Air Force and retired May 1973. He went back to the Air Force as a civil service employee for another 25 years where he served in the Transit Maintenance, Dyess Commissary, and Dyess Transportation and supply departments. Moia and his wife Bobbie and daughters Pamela and Shirley made their home in Abilene after his retirement.
His parents and sisters, Odie Mae Thomas and Eulalia Hawkins; and nephews, Larry and Garry Thomas preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Pamela J. Giles of Frisco, and Shirley Arrington of Abilene; grandchildren, Miracle and Jayson Nichols, Geacoby Arrington, and Brian and Idell Stokes; great- grandchildren, Christian and Glorianna Nichols, and Brittany and Imani Stokes. Surviving in-laws include Roosevelt Thomas of Bay City, Yvonne Choate of Fort Worth, James Cummings of Troy, and Miles Adams of Abilene.
