

Oliva Ortega Velasco, 69, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 in a local medical center. Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Funeral services will be at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Fred Nawarskas officiating on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
Mrs. Velasco was a Vice-President at First Financial Bank since 1982. She was very involved with the American Cancer Society and was Team Captain of Relay for Life at 1st Financial. She was also well known for her rum cakes. She was very involved with her grandchildren and their sports and various other activities. She loved her dog, a big boxer named "Indy". Mrs. Velasco was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Francisco Ortega; her mother, Francisca Galvan Ortega; her husband, Ruben in 2009; son, Frank Velasco; four brothers, Rafael, Elias, Domingo and Juan Ortega; and two sisters, Esperanza Saldivar and Aurelia Ortega. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ruben O. and Shirley Velasco of Abilene; daughter, Christina Sandoval of El Paso; three sisters, Josefina Rodriguez of Durango, Mexico, Felipa Rios of Torreon, Mexico and Carmen Lozano of El Paso; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers are Francisco Lozano, Kyle Killgore, John Velasco, Ruben Velasco, Frank Velasco, Franky Sandoval, Ruben Velasco Jr. and Robert Holguin.
