Oran Talmadge Caffey

Funeral services celebrating is life will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 12:00 Noon in the chapel of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson. Visitation will be held before the service starting at 10:00 AM.

Talmadge was born on February 4, 1929.He was 1 of 14 children born to the late Hyram Turner Caffey and Lillie Pearl (McNabb) Caffey. He was born in Anson and attended school in Anson and Truby. He was a proud member of the large Caffey family growing up and throughout life he and his siblings created many special memories together hunting, fishing, standing around the piano singing together and also traveling to name a few. He and some of his brothers and brother-in-law played baseball together for several years with the Truby Adult Baseball team. His love for sports always remained once he made Abilene home he became a Hardin Simmons fan and enjoyed going to watch the games. He worked numerous places to include The First Baptist Church of Abilene and Calvary Baptist Church where he retired as the custodian after 23 years. While he never married or had any children he was, “Uncle Tally” to several generations of nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his reserved and independent nature.

He was preceded in death by, parents; his brothers and their spouses, H.T and Opal Caffey, C.B. and Nova Caffey, George and Ruth Caffey, Curtis and Dorothy Caffey, Hyram Caffey and Burt Caffey; his sisters and their spouses, Thelma and Don Womack, Ava Lee and Clyde Mize, Pauline and J.D. Sosebee, Lou and John De Alba; his brother-in-law, Charles Bledsoe; two siblings who passed as infants; several nieces, and nephews.

He is survived by his last sibling, Patsy Bledsoe; his sister-in-law, Nell Caffey; several generations of nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins.
