Orrin was born to Virgil and Carmen Ortega on November 26, 1932 in Bostonia, California. He is preceded in death by both parents and his sisters: Virginia Vanderhoeff, Alberta Halbohn, Florence Bond; his son, Alexander Torricelli III; and his son-in-law, Jerry Nelson.
He leaves his wife of 45 years, Violet, in Temple; his sons, Orrin D. Ortega Sr.(Gretchen) and Anthony Ortega; his daughters, Barbara Kent(Mark), Melissa Sigler(Scott), Jocelyn Nelson and Cindy Braico(Nick). His 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins.
Orrin served his country for 21 years in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired as a Tech Sergeant from the military in 1973 and soon after found his dream career at the U.S. Postal Service. As a Letter Carrier, Orrin truly relished the friends he made along that path.
Over the years, he enjoyed the companionship of numerous dogs and had a passion for golf. He was a member of the St Mary Catholic Church in Temple, Texas and a previous member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Abilene, Texas.
Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Abilene on January 11,2019 at 11am with a private family burial at the Ortega Family Ranch in Campo California at a later date.
