

Peggy was born on September 17, 1938, in Gilmer, Texas to parents B.A and Katherine (Phillips) Bonner. She graduated from Harmony High School in Upsher County, Texas. She married the love of her life, James Hugh Griggs, embracing the military life by his side. Together they lived in Kansas and Oklahoma before eventually making their home in Texas.
Peggy and James were blessed with three sons, whom she loved deeply and supported with unwavering care.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, James Hugh Griggs; and her son, James Eric Griggs.
She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Alice, Judy, and Diane; her sons, Michael and Robert Griggs; her grandchildren, Misty, Jamie, Josh, Dalton, Erica, and Jonathan; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Corvin, Hayden, Logan, Zoe, Maysun, Kairi, Soren, Jenna, and Waverly.
Peggy found joy in life’s simple comforts. She loved sewing and creating with her hands, spending evenings watching Cold Case Files and documentaries, and faithfully watching church services on television every Sunday. Her gentle spirit, contagious smile, resilience, and deep love for family will be remembered always.
Though she will be greatly missed, Peggy’s legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured and the many lives she touched with her warmth and steady presence.
Visitation for Peggy will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, Texas 79606. A funeral service will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m.
Following the funeral service, a committal service will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
