Peggy Jean Chaney Pattillo died on July 16, 2017 in Abilene, TX at the age of 83. Funeral services will be 2:00p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Broadview Baptist Church, 2500 S. 27th St., Abilene, TX with burial following in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St.
Peggy was born at the Chaney Place in Erath County near Hico, Texas on January 5, 1934 to her parents Jim and Cora Chaney. She graduated from Pecos High School and attended classes at Hardin Simmons University. She married Don Pat Pattillo on December 9, 1950.
As a devoted wife and mother of three children, Peggy cherished her family and especially enjoyed time with relatives and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved little babies! She also loved the Lord and as a pastor’s wife gave of her time and energy to churches in the Abilene area. She believed in hospitality and treated all she came across as a part of her family. Peggy worked as a secretary and then as an administrative assistant for the School of Music at Hardin Simmons University for 38 years. She was passionate about caring for and helping every student who walked through her door.
Peggy is survived by her husband; children, Pat and Carolyn Pattillo of Abilene, TX, Cynthia and Tommy Stephenson of Aubrey, TX, and Robert and Lynda Pattillo of Abilene, TX; siblings, Colleen Nabers of Blanket, TX, Ronald Chaney of Tenino, WA, and Donna “Susie” Kelso of Panama City, Panama; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Forris Chaney of Olympia, WA. Memorials may be given to Broadview Baptist Church or Hardin Simmons University School of Music.
