

Peggy Touchstone, 88, was called home on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Signature Pointe on the Lake in Dallas, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 9, 2011 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech Street in Abilene, TX with Eddie Rivera officiating. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Anson, Texas following the service. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 542 Hickory Street, Abilene, Texas.
Peggy was born to W.B. and Edna Hagens, Jr. on December 2, 1923 in Anson, Texas. She graduated from Anson High School in 1939 and attended Baylor University. She married Durwood Neville, also of Anson, on January 7, 1943 and lived primarily in San Diego, California during World War II. After the war they returned to Anson where Durwood worked at Hagens Grocery Store, and Peggy returned to college and received her teaching diploma from Hardin Simmons University in 1948. She began her elementary school teaching career at Anson ISD in the fall of 1948 teaching the second grade. In December 1959 the family moved to Abilene and Peggy taught in the Abilene ISD. In the early 1970’s Peggy received her graduate degree in Special Education and continued teaching in the Abilene ISD until her retirement in 1980.
On June 10, 1972, Peggy married N.H. Touchstone of Anson and they lived in Abilene. They enjoyed traveling, designing and creating stained glass works together and were active in their bridge club as well as, the Propheteer’s Sunday School Class at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Peggy was also involved in the Abilene Women’s Club.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband N.H. Touchstone and a granddaughter.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy Lane and husband Bill of Luling, TX and Susan Smith of Carrollton, TX; step-daughter, Pam Felton and husband Bobby of Boerne, Texas; grandchildren, Alvin Archa, Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska, Mike Lane and wife Sharyl of Lockhart, TX, Jennifer Purcell of Austin, TX, John Purcell and wife Jody of Houston, TX, Tiffany Fykes and husband Josh of Nashville, Tennessee, Tawna Strenpel and husband Keith of Ingleside, TX, Ty Felton and wife Heidi of Anchorage, Alaska; four great-grandchildren, Justin, BriLane, Ehren and Asher.
Peggy’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Signature Pointe on the Lake and Hospice Compassus of Dallas TX for their loving care.
