Pickard Joseph Walker

Joe Walker, 89, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in Abilene. Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Friday, October 7, 2016 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene with Elizabeth Billingsley officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker Family Cemetery, Hawley, TX. Visitation will be Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Fields, Keith Boney, Phil Tanner, Bryan Thompson, James Byars, and Kevin Wright.

Joe was born on August 9, 1927 in Breckenridge, TX to the late Pickard Cady and Anna Belle Walker. Joe owned and operated the Pronto Gas Companies and was also a farmer and a member of the NRA. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was his grandchildren’s hero and anchor in every storm. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Gay Walker; a son, Joe Don Walker; a daughter, Sally Boney; grandchildren, Rick Fields and Katie Dalo; a great-grandchild, Christina Fields; and sisters, Della Cady and Mary Hunter. Survivors include his grandsons, Joe Fields and wife, Michele of Little Elm, TX, and Keith Boney and wife, Jessica of Venus, TX; granddaughters, Tina Walker of Hawley, TX, and Mary Pruitt of Arlington, TX; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
