Richard L Somerville

Slim was born on May 15, 1937 in Seneca Falls NY to Ercile Wentworth Somerville and Jane Marsfelder Somerville.

Slim was a proud retiree of the United States Air Force having spent 25 years serving his country from 1954 to 1979. While stationed in Germany he met the love of his life, Miss Helga Heimbach who he married on December 29, 1959 in Wiesbaden, Germany. After retiring from the Air Force Slim spent his life as a businessman owning businesses such as the Oasis Liquor Store, Slims Pawn, and Slims Collectibles. Once fully retired he and Helga traveled the country in their travel trailer and enjoyed life to its fullest.

Those that knew Slim knew he was easy going and that he saw good in everyone, even those others did not. If he liked you, you could expect him to be a jokester and to help you if it was ever needed. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling, hunting, and racing any one of his over 200 cars he has had throughout the years. To best describe Slim one would call him an avid collector of just about anything, especially cars and coins. He will be truly missed by the family that he loved so dearly.

Slim is survived by his wife Helga Somerville of Abilene, his son Michael Thomas Somerville of Abilene, daughters Rene Abby Rosas and husband Johnny of Abilene and Rita Jane Creadick and husband Jack of Abilene, by grandchildren Jay Creadick, Kevin Creadick, Rolando “Ricky” Santillana, and DeeAnna Gregoire, and by step-grandchildren Lacey Boyd and Deanna Clemons as well as by 5 great-granddaughters and 1 great-grandson. Also surviving are his brothers Edward Somerville of Park Hills Missouri and Albert Somerville of Manassas, Virginia, a sister Sue Ann Hawes of Scottsdale Arizona as well as several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Richard Ercile "Ricky" Somerville

The family will be present for a visitation on Friday, March 11th from 6-8 pm in the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel.
