Richard "Yogi" Troy Wheless

Graveside services celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Cedar Gap Cemetery, on Hwy 83/84 (at County Road 150), with Bro. Chris McCurley officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 6-8:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 S, in Abilene, Texas 79606.

Richard was born on March 26, 1936 in Dublin, TX to the late Tom and Lillie (McMillian) Wheless. Richard married Shirley Baker on April 28, 1956. Together they raised six very loving children. He was employed by Rhodes and Son Well Service for over 40 years. He also had his own business, Yogi’s Well Service, for 2 years. He enjoyed being outdoors and doing yard work. He also had built a few rental houses on his property. He believed in making an honest living. He was always willing to help anyone in need.

He spent Thanksgiving and Christmas with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His children always made his birthdays and Father’s Day special.

As his health started to decline, he spent more time indoors watching old westerns, 700 club, and Oldham Lane Church of Christ on Sunday mornings. He had his Chihuahua “Lucky Dog” to keep him company. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much. He will be truly missed by all his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; infant son, Randall Wheless; son, Ronnie Sweat; son-in-law, James Miko; brothers, Mitchell, Elmer, Floyd, and Raymond Wheless; and his sister Mae Ferguson.

To cherish his memories, sons, Richard Lee (Ann) Wheless, Donnie Sweat and partner Tim Christopher; daughters, Cindy(Danny) Wise, Tammie (Donald) Kimbrough, and Linda Miko; daughter-in-law, Deedra Sweat; sisters, Lorene Phillips; Fay Rippy; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many nephews, nieces, and friends. Thanks to family and friends for all their love and support.
