

Robert S. “Bob” Dunn, 78, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014 at a local hospital in Abilene, TX. Funeral services will be 2:00p.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory St. with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Jeremy Alcantar, Richard Alcantar, Joshua Rosa, James Rosa, Johnny Rosa, Danny Dunn of Odessa, Danny Dunn of Silverton, Paul Dunn, Tim Dunn, and Mark Gonzalez.
Bob was born in Jackson, Mississippi on June 12, 1936 to William and Lucille Sanford Dunn. He graduated from Jackson Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi and attended Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. Bob married the love of his life, Marie Hernandez on November 11, 1966 in Waco, Texas. They moved to Abilene from Lubbock in 1974 and have lived here since. Bob served his country proudly in the United States Air Force and retired as Master Sergeant after 20 years of service. He also retired after 20 years from Civil Service duties. He also volunteered at the Rose Park Senior Center for many years.
Bob’s smile was contagious. He was full of humor and loved to make people laugh. Bob loved to fish, play games, play Casino games, and loved being a part of the “Happy Group”. His heart was as big as the universe when it came to loving his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sons, Thomas D. Olalde, James D. Dunn, and Stevie Dunn; brother, Fred Dunn; and a sister, Jackie Stanford.
Survivors include the love of his life of 48 years, Marie Dunn of Abilene; four daughters, Mary Lou Dunn Alcantar and husband, Richard of Abilene, Mary Alice Rosa and husband, Johnny of Lubbock, Rose Olalde of Lubbock, and Valerie Nenzoski and husband, Michael of Houston; five sons, Robert S. Dunn, Jr. and wife, Debbie of Vista, CA, Thomas P. Dunn of Odessa, Timothy W. Dunn of Tuscon, AZ, Alford Olalde of Orlando, FL, and Jesse Olalde of Abilene; one sister, Mildred Russell of Birmingham, AL; three brothers, Wheeler W. Dunn and wife, Vie of Jackson, MS, Thomas Dunn and wife, Barbara of Jackson, MS, and Milton Fairchild of Las Vegas, NV; 22 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
