Rubye Smith

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2pm Friday, October 2, 2015 at Hodges Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Cheevers and Maurice Clement (nephew) officiating. burial will follow in Midway Cemetery, Hodges, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be Matt Smith, Josh Smith, Andrew Smith, Dennis Jones, Ronnie McCoy and David Woods.

Rubye was born in Merkel, Texas to the late Bill and Jetta (Cooper) Caldwell. She spent a number of years living in Snyder before settling in the Hawley area. She married the late Rev. Willie Earl Smith on May 17, 1958. Rubye loved quilting and spending time with her family (especially her grandsons). She had been anxiously waiting to see her grandson Garrett in his Navy uniform.

Rubye was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Rev. Willie Earl Smith; three sons, Donnie, Craig and Tony Smith; and two sisters, Doris Wood and Billye Tackett. She is survived by her son, Gervis Smith and his wife Lorri of San Antonio; grandsons, Jason and Garrett Smith; sister, Paula Humphreys of Hermleigh; several nieces and nephews; and her loving dog and companion, Keada. The family is forever thankful for the wonderful care and endless love that Rubye's nephew, Jack Clement and his wife Debbie, gave over the years.
