Sammie Hudson Drake

Sammie Hudson Sorell Drake, 81, died Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2011 in the First Baptist Church Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00p.m., Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South.

Sammie was born April 4, 1929, in Pumphrey Texas, near Winters, to Texas parents Flossie and Morgan Hudson. She graduated from Winters High School.

She worked in the clothing industry as a buyer and later became a hotel event planner working in Texas, New York, South Carolina and Illinois.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Sorell Cassle and husband, J. Cassle of Abilene; daughter-in- law, Misty Sorell of Columbia, SC; grandsons, BJ Cassle and wife, Misty of Abilene and Alan Sorell of Pawleys Island, SC; great-grandchildren, James Cassle and Claire Cassle of Abilene. Sammie was a special aunt to several nieces and nephews.

The 5th of 8 children, Sammie was the last remaining Hudson sibling.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Drake of Columbia, SC and son Kyle Alan Sorell of Camden, SC.

Member of First Baptist Church, Primetime Class, and Bereavement Team, “GrandSam” as she was known by her family, was a very outgoing, good friend to many - always known for her positive outlook and sweet spirit. BJ and Alan were the absolute joys of her life. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, sitting with Patsy and watching her great-grandchildren as they were beginning their lives.
