

Teresa Lowry was born on April 8, 1953, in Abilene, Texas. She was the oldest child born to the late Jimmy Martin, Sr. and Ethel Mae (Williams) Martin. She began her education at Woodson School and went on to graduate from Cooper High School. She furthered her education through Cisco Jr. College, graduating in 1983 and went on to become a registered nurse graduating from Angelo State University. She married the late Willie E. “Tonaka” Lowry on Aug. 10, 1975.
Teresa grew up surrounded by strong women and being the oldest child she carried that spirit on. She was a hard worker and was ambitious. She began a productive and successful 47-year career with the then Abilene State School retiring in 2023 from the Abilene State Supported Living Center. During this time, it was not uncommon for Teresa to have a part-time jobs to fulfill whatever her desires were. After her retirement her work relationships continued through gatherings.
She attended Galilee Baptist Church where her husband served a Deacon. She was a part of several ministries to include working with the church finances. Teresa carried herself with confidence. She often had an air class and sophistication that was unmatched. Teresa enjoyed the simple pleasures of life reading her magazine, keeping up to date with fashion trends, and planning her dream garden patio area.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willie “Tonaka” Lowry; sister, Hazel “Candy” Martin Potts.
She is survived by her daughter, Turkesha Larenta Lowry; stepdaughters, Regina, and Islan Lowry; siblings, Jimmy Martin, Jr., Clarence Martin, and Mae Frances Lewis all of Abilene and Steve Martin(Sandra) of Austin, Texas; 11 step-grandchildren; her Lowry in-laws, James E. Lowry, Lela Brooks, Bobby Lowry, Charles Lowry, Betty McChristian, Katy Lowry-Smith, Gary Lowry, Joyce Lowry, Barbara Lowry, Evelyn Lowry, and Ricky Lowry numerous nieces and nephews; devoted colleagues and friends.
Visitation will be held at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606, US, on June 17, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will be held at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606, US, on June 18, 2026, at 11:00 am. A Committal Service will follow at the same location on June 18, 2026. Services will be livestreamed access link below.
