TSGT. Billy Ray Morgan,USAF(Ret.)
December 30, 1933 – March 16, 2020
Billy Ray Morgan, 86, of Tye, TX, was born December 30, 1933, and was peacefully called home on Monday, March 16, 2020 at 9:55 a.m., while surrounded by the love of his family.
Billy was born to Robert and Lucy Morgan in Lake Providence, LA. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Madalene Corley Morgan, on April 22, 1956 in Winnfield, LA. The couple was married just shy of 64 years before his passing.
At the young age of 17-years-old, Billy joined the United States Air Force and loyally served his country until his retirement in 1971, at the age of 38. While serving, he was stationed in numerous places, which included air bases in Louisiana, Toul-Rosiѐres, France, Johnston Island in the South Pacific, and eventually Tye, TX, where he retired and spend the remainder of his life. The ever-hard worker, Billy worked for El-Tye-O Mobile Homes as a maintenance technician, in heating and air conditioning repair at C&J Airconditioning and Heating Co., and with Pride Refinery. In his early 70s, he finally decided to permanently retire to focus on spending more precious time with his family.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, his son, Billy Larkin Morgan, and his great-grandson, RC Morgan Minze.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years and 11 months, Marilyn Morgan; daughter, Liz Hargrove and her husband Rick; son, Buddy Morgan and his wife Sherri; and daughter, Pam Hood and her husband Tim.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Hollye Stallings and her husband Derek; Hayle Cochran her husband Russell; Hope Hargrove; Chris Breeden and his wife Amber; Stephanie Byram and her husband Matt; Tanner Morgan; Bridget Morgan; Caden Morgan; and Lane Watts and her husband Rusty. He is further survived by his great-grandchildren Karlee, Rylan, and Wyatt Cochran; Jax, Everly, Montana, and Savannah Breeden; Jayde and Macin Byrum; and Ace Maclane Minze and Charlotte Rae Watts. He is also survived by his dear friends, who ceaselessly were there to help care for him and his wife, Kenny and Janet Law.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277, Abilene, TX. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 19, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Elliott-Hamil as well, followed by his interment at Tye Cemetery on Morgan Street in Tye, TX.
Billy was a loving husband to his beautiful wife, father to the children of whom he was so proud, and Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he adored. In fact, he was Papa to everyone who knew him. He attended Gateway Baptist Church and was part of an overwhelmingly loving church home. One of his favorite pastimes was reading, especially Louis L’Amour books, with which he shared that love with his great-grandson, Ace Maclane. Though our hearts are broken, there is no doubt we will one day be reunited with him.
“There will come a time when you believe everything is finished. Yet that will be the beginning.” – Louis L’Amour
