Maxine was born in Lueders, Texas to John Boyd Kincaid and Vera Mae Underwood Kincaid. She attended nursing school at Anson General Hospital where she worked for many years before taking a job at Hendrick Medical Center. She retired from nursing in 1987 and spent many years working the farm, raising cattle, goats and miniature horses until moving to Abilene in 2000.
Maxine is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Misti and Terry Grant of Abilene; her granddaughter, Megan Grant and Chris Evenson of Abilene; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Jan Kincaid of Abilene; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and James Edwards of Albany; nephews, Joey Kincaid and James Boyd Edwards; nieces, Jennifer von Estorff, Trina Edwards and Brittany Savoy; and numerous extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Edwin Darrell Grissom.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, January 18, 2019 in the Elliott Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 5 to 7pm on Thursday evening at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South.
If you were lucky enough to be loved by Maxine, you were loved fiercely and loyally. She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her name be made to Ben Richey Boys Ranch. The family wants to issue a special thanks to Charles Goodnight and Kindred Hospice for all of the support and special care.
