Vera Vay O'Hern

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Faith Baptist Church 2300 S 20th St, Abilene, TX 79605 at 1:00 PM. She will be buried at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene with her husband on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM.

Vera was born on January 26, 1942, to the late Odis Brown and Vivian Kate (Whatley) Goodsell in Brownwood, Texas. She married Vernon Shepard, and they had 10 children. She later married Clarence O'Hern. She was a devoted homemaker who saw to the needs of her large family. She was a great cook and baker. She was very creative and made quilts, one of which is displayed in the Roy Rogers Museum. She was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her brutal honesty, strong will and unique sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Vernon Shepard and Clarence O'Hern; son, James Shepard; daughter, Tammy Corsello; grandson, Christopher O'Hern; daughter-law, Jenise Shepard; great-grandson, Joseph Corsello and 7 siblings.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn Gaines, Connie Hargis(Jeff), Elizabeth O'Hern(David), Sarah Gomez(Jerry), Stephen Shepard(Paula), Charles Shepard, Vickie Earley(William) and Travis Shepard(Tabitha) 31 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great grandchildren.
