Virginia was born on April 22, 1926 in Owensville, Indiana to the late Millard Filmore Larkins and Mabel Augusta (Garrett) Larkins. She grew up in a large family where she and her siblings learned values from their parents such as hard work, faith, and remaining together. The siblings remained close throughout life. She met Edison Walls at a dance and the rest was history. They married on September 27, 1944. They moved around with his career making their way to Cross Plains, TX and eventually settled in Abilene in 1955. Initially Virginia was a loving homemaker taking care of her three children. She took a job working at Sears in the gift wrap department. With her work ethic and natural ambition, she worked her way up to accounts receivable. She went on to have a successful and productive career as a bank officer in Abilene for many years. Though she worked outside of the home, her family was of the utmost importance in her life. As grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren came, she showered them with her love and special gifts from the heart.
Virginia never remained idle she was active up until the week before her passing. She was a member of Kiwanis and First Central Presbyterian and Square Dancing (Wagon Wheel). She was also active with the Democratic Women. She enjoyed creating special memories with her family; camping, being at the lake and whatever was going on the in lives of her children and grandchildren. She was naturally creative, painted beautiful art, and crocheted beautiful keepsakes. She will be remembered for her outgoing personality, always being "dressed to the nines", her sense of humor, friendly nature, and her, “get it done” spirit. She left a mark on everyone she met because she genuinely loved people.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edison Walls; her brothers, James, Paul, Virgil, Melvin, and George Larkins; her sisters, Mabel Hathaway, Patricia Gieselman, and Jane Brown.
