He was born in Roscoe, TX in 1942 to parents Fred and Lizzie Mae (Williams) Walker. He graduated from Roscoe High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964. He married Janice Jane Morton on December 2, 1964. He worked as a fireman for the Sweetwater Fire Department and then for the majority of his career for the Abilene Police Department. He served as county jail administrator and then post-retirement worked delivering mail for the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a man of strong faith and supported Trinity Baptist Church of Abilene even up until the time of his death. He enjoyed drawing and painting, raising various types of pigeons and other birds, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his brother Marvin Walker, sister Edith Pursley, wife Janice Walker, and daughter Darla Esparza. He is survived by his son Steven Walker, his son Christopher Walker and daughter Leah Kalmar, as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2026, 1:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 US Highway 277 S. in Abilene. Interment will follow in Sweetwater Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7:00 PM also at the funeral home.
