

Willie Dean Spurgeon, 93, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at a local hospital in Abilene. Funeral services will be 11:00a.m., Friday, August 15, 2014 at Second Baptist Church, 901 Victoria St., Abilene with Ben Wilson officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. Visitation will be this evening, Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
Willie was born on June 15, 1921 in Hodges, Texas to the late William and Maudie Mae Crawford Porter.
Affectionately known as “Granny” by family and friends, Willie was a hard worker. She was a retired Fire Chief Secretary working for DC Musick and James Pogue. She also worked for Abilene Municipal Federal Credit Union until she was 86 years old. Everyone loved her. Granny was a great prayer warrior and a very forgiving person that would extend grace unconditionally.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Kenneth Spurgeon; and a grandson, Robert Middleton.
Survivors include her daughters, Gayle Miller and Ann Middleton, both of Abilene; a sister, Margaret Furcht of Virginia; grandsons, Jeff Miller and Carl Middleton; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Stephen, Magan, and Catarina; great-great-grandchildren, Chloe, Carson, Parker, Gracie, and another great-great-grandson on the way.
