She attended and graduated from Miles High School and then attended San Angelo College where she obtained her Associate’s Degree. She resided in San Angelo until she moved to Abilene to work for Merchant’s Fast Motor Lines. She then became a full time mother to her children. She then went to work at Dyess Air Force Base in Civil Service until she retired some time later.
Wilma loved cats, gardening, sewing, crocheting, solitaire, collecting antiques and travel. She always had a big smile and she gave big hugs.
She is survived by her two sons: Norman Heaton and Kenneth Heaton and wife, Cheryl, whom Wilma lovingly called her daughter, four grandchildren: Tiffany Moore, Tracy Heaton, Christina Heaton, and Ryan Heaton, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Bergan, a daughter, Bonnie Kimzey, a son, Merle Smith, her parents and her siblings.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 10:30 am at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, with interment following at Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends just before the service from 9:30 until 10:30 am at the funeral home.
