Passed peacefully on January 11th in his 93rd year. Much loved husband for 66 years of Mary (Fennell) and father of Doug (Barb), Susan, Janet (Laurence) and Nancy (John) and grandfather of Becky (Matt), Kelly (Ky), Leah (Walker), Karen (Fred), Maggie, Samantha (David), Ryan (Lisa), Jack, and Emily. Great-grandfather of McKenna, Ty, Olivia, Chase, Emma, and Alexis.
Son of the late Robert and Alice Allan (Storey) and brother of the late Robert and George Allan.
Born and raised on a farm in Erin Township, he served with the South Alberta Tank Regiment in WWII in England. He often spoke of his time farming; as a Constable with the Acton Police Force; as a Machinist on the Avro Arrow; and as a Correctional Officer in Guelph.
He retired in 1983 and spent many wonderful summers with Mary and family at the cottage on Colpoys Bay. He would fix anything, help anyone, and enjoyed conversations - especially over morning coffee. His knowledge of local and family history and great story telling was a gift to us all. He was a proud member of Branch 197 of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 60 years, the Walker Friendship Masonic Lodge, and an Elder of Knox Presbyterian Church in Acton.
His friendly personality will be missed.
The family will receive friends at the MacKinnon Family Funeral Home, 55 Mill Street East, Acton on Sunday, January 15 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and on Monday, January 16 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
The Royal Canadian Legion Tribute will be held on Sunday at 3:00.
The funeral service will be conducted in the “Shoemaker Chapel” by the Rev. Peter Barrow on Monday, January 16th at two o’clock.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Knox Presbyterian Church in Acton for window restoration would be appreciated.
On-line condolences may be made at www.mackinnonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
