Claude's educational journey began at the Devry Institute, where he honed his technical skills that would serve him throughout his career. His commitment to excellence was evident in both his professional endeavors and his personal passions. His professional journey included notable tenures at Phelps Dodge Mine, Childs Mountain, and later retired with honor after serving at Lewis Prison. His work ethic was emblematic of his dedication to his craft and his capacity to lead.
He had a special fondness for ham radio and trains, which inspired connections with friends and family alike. His love for classic cars, particularly Mustangs, showcased his appreciation for craftsmanship and history—a trait that truly defined him. Many cherished memories were created around easter desert BBQs and spending time with family, where laughter and stories came alive. He held a deep-rooted enthusiasm for camping in Show low area, fishing, and stargazing with his many telescopes that reflected his love for the great outdoors. Family gatherings were illuminated by his talent for cooking and baking and his enthusiastic approach to his Christmas decorations that added a sparkle of joy to the holidays and the Ajo community.
Claude held many proud accomplishments dear to his heart. As an Eagle Scout, he earned the Ad Alteri Dei award, the highest honor given to a boy scout by the Catholic Church, a recognition that conveyed his dedication to service, leadership, and faith. He was the first Eagle Scout in Ajo to receive this accomplished award. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus with the Immaculate Conception church.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Teresa Mason, and his sons, Michael Mason, Ariel Hernandez and daughters, Patricia Mason, Cheryl Carter, Adriana Hernandez, and Xochitl Sepulveda, and his brother Bill Mason.
