She was born to Edwin and Florence Abendroth on October 11, 1934. Early in life, she pursued her family’s inspiring role in the Lutheran church. Also becoming a grade school teacher, she met her husband and minister, Rod Funk. Together, they had two children, Kristen and Timothy, who carry out her memorial today.
Most significantly in her life, Betty also became an accomplished church organist to help inspire her congregations. She enjoyed long and celebrated music leadership at Shore Haven Church in Euclid, Ohio and St Mark’s in Brunswick, Ohio. Most recently she helmed the church organ at Zion UCC in nearby Cleveland. Her organ playing methods also cascaded across many other churches through her music evangelism.
Betty is now reunited with her parents and sister, Lois Schultz, in heaven.
Keith Konet (pictured with Betty here) was Betty's partner and companion for the last 30 years of her life.
Donations to Lutheran High School’s Rocky River, Ohio and East Cleveland locations are much appreciated in lieu of flowers. Flowers may also be sent to Shore Haven Lutheran Church in Euclid, where her memorial will take place.
