Cynthia Young Acklin

Cindy graduated from Lockport Senior High School class of ‘71, SUNY Brockport class of ‘75, and earned her Master’s degree from Niagara University class of ‘80. She spent her career as a physical education teacher, retiring in 2018 from Akron Public Schools. Cindy was also a committed swim instructor, coach, and official for many years. Cindy was dedicated to her students and took great pride in helping children learn, grow, and stay active.

Cindy lived for many years in Akron, Ohio, where she developed many close, lifelong friendships. She enjoyed spending her summers working at Blossom Music Center and was active in the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, serving as both a member and an officer. She also served on the board of the Ohio Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (OAHPERD), demonstrating her continued dedication to supporting educators and advancing health and physical education.

Cindy is predeceased by her parents and survived by her brother, Jim Young (Bonnie) of Centreville, Va; nieces, Lauren Jackson (Will) and Caroline; and great-nieces, Olivia, Madison, and Hannah. She will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and the meaningful connections she built throughout her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local humane society or charity of your choice.

In honor of Cindy, during this holiday season, please raise a glass of bourbon-spiked eggnog or a very dirty martini and listen to Trans-Siberian Orchestra or watch The Wizard of Oz.
