He is survived by his daughter Leanne, son-in-law Brian, and granddaughter Avorie Swift, daughter Patti and son-in-law Don Smerk, dear brothers, and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Patricia Popeko, his mother and father Edith and John Popeko, and dear brothers and family who have gone before him.
Frank was raised in Akron, Ohio, and was a long-time resident of Cuyahoga Falls. He was a member of The Chapel in Akron, though illness kept him from attending regularly. He served in the Army during Vietnam and lived with the effects of war his entire life. The Lord saved him in his late twenties and he loved to share truth from the Bible when he could, and even had the privilege of preaching sermons in his earlier days as a believer.
He kept his strong sense of humor throughout many difficulties and loved staying up late listening to his treasured CDs and sermons on WCRF, finding great comfort in music and in God’s Word, especially in the quiet hours of the night. He gave generously with what he had and cared deeply for others. His life is an example of how God saves people and sanctifies them throughout their lifetime.
We will greatly miss Frank and his kind and gentle heart. We will miss our rich conversations and will feel his absence until God calls us to join him in Heaven.
We’d like to thank his caregivers and friends at the nursing home where he resided for their compassionate care—you helped him to feel valued as a person and provided much needed community for him. The Lord cared for him through you beyond what we could have imagined. Thank you also to hospice who provided extra care, support, and prayers.
A private service to honor Frank is planned.
