He was born on August 5, 1948 in Saghbine, Lebanon. He was a dedicated Maronite whose faith was reflected in the way he lived his life and treated others. He loved his church and found strength, comfort, and purpose in his relationship with God.
He also loved to sing, and those who knew him will remember the joy and personality he brought with him. His voice, his kindness, his faith and the love he gave so freely will remain treasured memories for his family and friends.
He came to this country in 1972 to Danbury, Connecticut, then settled in Akron where he spent his life as a barkeeper.
George was preceded in death by his parents Yousef and Adele Samia, his sister Saidi Maroun from Australia, and many cousins and friends.
George was a very loving and caring husband. He is survived by his wife Kim Owen of 38 years. He is also survived by his sisters Zayzuf Samia and Heluwe (Issa) both from Lebanon; he leaves behind his sisters in law Laura (Ron) Gladieux of Green, Lynn (Rodney) Hall of Alabama, Sandy Baylor of Florida, and Michelle Leidel-Wilde of Florida. He leaves behind too his brothers in law Bud (Glenda) Leidel of Hartville and Emile Maroun of Australia, and his cousin George (Nada) Maroun of Akron. Additionally, he leaves behind many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. He is also survived by his dear best friend Tony Mourad, who never missed a day of visiting him and stayed by his side during his sickness.
The family has requested that although they will love and accept flowers, friends and loved ones may also consider donating to Our Lady of the Cedars Maronite Church.
Friends may attend calling hours Thursday August 27, 2026, from 4PM to 7PM at Rose Hill Funeral Home 3653 West Market St., Akron, Ohio, 44333. Funeral will be at Our Lady of the Cedars Maronite Church 507 S Cleveland Massillon Rd, Fairlawn, OH 44333. Friday August 28, 2026 at 10 AM.
Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park, 3653 West Market St., Akron, Ohio, 44333.
