Gerard was born in Camp-Perrin, Haiti to Eline Damas on September 25, 1930. He came to the United States in 1967. He married Gabrielle Ferrer in 1978 in Miami, Florida.
Gerard worked as a carpenter his entire career, spending many years working at Charles Mayer Studios. He enjoyed talking to his close friends about his home country and soccer. He was an avid reader and spoke English, Creole, French, some Spanish and Italian.
Gerard was preceded in death by his wife Gabrielle, his mother Eline Damas, his father Antoine Claude Gerard Ferrer, his sisters Caridad Ferrer and Marie Antoinette Poux, his brothers Robert Ferrer and Jean Ferrer.
Gerard is survived by sons Pierre (Sonji) Ferrer, Paul Ferrer, Emmanuel Gerald Ferrer, daughter Marylene Utley, grandchildren Dominique Ferrer Tobon (Mateo), Marcel Ferrer Tristan Ferrer, Edward Walter Kelemencky, Fionna Iva Kelemencky, Dave Marcel Ferrer, Maureen Edith Ferrer, great-grandchildren Ayla Jane Kelemencky and Oleander Edward Gillespie, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and dear friends.
A visitation will be held on March 26, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 W Market St, Akron, OH 44333. Funeral Mass will take place on March 27, 2026 at 10:00 AM at St. Bernard Parish, 44 University Ave., Akron, OH 44308. A private burial will take place for immediate family.
