

Gloria Jean Minnick (nee: Douglas) a lifelong Akron resident, passed away September 27, 2014 at the age of 88. Born November 27, 1926 she graduated from East High School Class of 1945. Gloria loved crafts, flower arranging and collecting and making dolls. She was proud to appear on several Cleveland television shows to share her recipes.
Gloria Jean was also very active with the Ellet AARP and the Goodyear Heights Baptist Church Senior Group. Her favorite place to be was the family summer house in Pennsylvania where she always said “the coffee pot’s always on!”.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Guy W. Minnick, her parents; Kirkland and Della Mae Douglas and her brother David Douglas.
Gloria Jean leaves behind her son Roger (April) Minnick, daughter and caregiver Suzanne (Dennis) Blair, sister in-law Pat Douglas and grandchildren; Laurie Trevino, Christopher (Stacy) Blair and Chad (Sarah) Blair, Kelly (Jason) Clendenin, and Sean Djuricic, and her great-grandchildren Kristen, Emilio, Steven, Alejandra, Madison, Timothy and Taylor.
The family would also like to thank Summit Villa Nursing Home for all of the love, compassion and care they gave Gloria Jean.
Funeral services will be held Friday October 3, 11 am at the CATAVOLOS FUNERAL HOME 3653 West Market St. Fairlawn, where family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral services. Retired Pastor John Phillips of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church will be officiating.
Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Gloria Jean’s honor to AseraCare Hospice 2820 W. Market St. Akron, OH 44333.
