

Gordon is survived by his five children, Gretchen Sandridge (Steve), William (Fran), Robert, Mary Ann Watts (Allen Loew), and Brenda Pongracz (Andrew), and grandchildren Colleen and Beryl Sandridge, Alexander and Christopher Pongracz, Joshua Buchta, Elizabeth (Buchta) Russo, Grace Buchta, & Lily Wepfer.
Gordon was born in 1933 in Milwaukee,Wisconsin to parents William Oscar Wepfer and Edna Martha Leona Wepfer (Guhl). He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Virginia, sister Bernice (Wepfer) Wittig, brother Russell Wepfer, and his grandson, Brandon Watts.
He married his college sweetheart, Virginia May Schwartz in 1956. Together they had 5 children.
Gordon attended the University of Michigan and ultimately received a PhD in Nuclear and Chemical Engineering. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. Gordon was a member of US Air Force for 20 years and was responsible for physics research (1957-1977). He retired as an Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. He and Virginia lived for over 30 years in Hiram and Lake Milton, Ohio. Gordon was a professor of Physics at Hiram College, 1977-1995). He was a member of Hiram Village Council and The Mayor of Hiram. Gordon was a member of the American Physical Society, Garfield Society of Hiram College, and Boy Scouts of America (Silver Beaver Award Recipient).
Gordon loved the ourdoors, fishing, swimming and waterskiing. He enjoyed the performing arts and participated in various choirs and community theater. He was a devout Christian and a member of many Churches over the years. Most recently, Gordon and Virginia were members of Westminster Presbyterian Church (Akron).
A memorial service will take place 2 pm, July 19, 2025 at Rose Hill Funeral Home, Akron, Ohio 44313. Immediately following the service there will be a gathering for family and friends.
