

Gwendolyn S. Peterson (nee:Segerlund) age 97, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away January 1, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 12, 1915 in Akron, Ohio to the late Herman and Severina Segerlund.
Gwen graduated from West High School and went on to work at Firestone and retired after 35 years of service. After retirement, she volunteered at Akron General Hospital for many years and was a secretary for Mary Martha Ladies group at Bethany Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member. Gwen was famous for her baked goods and has passed her treasured recipes to her granddaughters.
In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Mel, who was the love of her life, and her brothers; Paul, Robert and Carl. Gwen leaves behind her children, Gwynn (Richard) Hart and Kay Peterson, her grandchildren; Melissa (Aaron) Hawkins, Mindy (Pat) Filoia, Melanie (Kurtis) Fraley and Megan Barna, and six great-grandchildren; Max, Alison, Ethan, Olivia, Melody and Joel and many nieces and nephews.
Gwen’s family would like to thank the nurses, caregivers and staff from the Gardens of Western Reserve and Summa Hospice for their wonderful care; especially Jessie and Kim.
Family will receive friends Sunday, January 6, from 2-5 pm at the CATAVOLOS FUNERAL HOME 3653 W. Market St. Fairlawn. Funeral services will be Monday January 7, 11am at Bethany Lutheran Church 833 Carroll St. Akron, 44305.
PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Burial to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Gwen’s name to either Bethany Lutheran Church or the Gardens of Western Reserve 45 Chart Rd. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223.
