Jerome “Jerry” P. Stanoch, 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully Oct. 12, 2021, at Maplewood at Cuyahoga Falls. He was surrounded by family when he entered the gates of heaven.
Jerry was born May 18, 1941, in Chicago to Peter and Dolores Stanoch. He grew up in a Polish neighborhood on the Northwest side. Family filled his life at home, school and church. He was the best of friends with his siblings and cousins and adored his aunts and uncles. He embraced his Polish family holiday traditions, foods and music. His Catholic education instilled in him the value of faith, learning and service. As a teen, he spent one year in the seminary studying to become a Priest. He attended Loyola Academy, where he excelled in academics and was a member of the first graduating class in Wilmette, IL. He followed in the footsteps of his older brother Phillip and attended John Carroll University in University Heights. He spent two years at Case Western University Law School before moving to Akron and completing a Master’s in Accountancy at the University of Akron.
Jerry worked hard to provide a good life for his family. He was a Certified Public Accountant, beginning his career at Firestone Corporation, before joining Herman, Thomas and Tron Associates. Jerry taught accounting at Akron U for 10 years as an adjunct faculty member. He was a founding co-partner at Schlabig and Associates with Bob Schalbig in 1976. He left public accounting to pursue a career as an entrepreneur, including President and Chief Operating Officer of Omnicor Inc. He also was a founding partner in Mutual Oil and Gas Company. He worked for Kenmore Construction as Vice President, Office Operations, assisting with multiple infrastructure projects and retired in 2018 but continued to consult.
A lifetime baseball fan, he was a huge supporter of amateur baseball in the community. For that support, he was inducted into the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998 for sponsoring the Akron Omnicor team from 1982-1989 and for his support as a Walsh Jesuit High School Baseball Booster.
Family, faith and friendship meant everything to Jerry, a legacy he passed on to his children and grandchildren. This summer Diana brought multiple generations together to celebrate his 80th birthday, which brought him tremendous joy.
He believed in working hard, being honest and giving to others above self. Jerry always told a good story, loved a great party, appreciated all kinds of music, enjoyed traveling the world and meeting people. He was generous with his time, cared deeply for those he loved and always remembered everyone’s birthday with a card and a special message.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 28 years, Diana, (nee Smith); his and Diana’s children, Catherine Rose, Polly (Roger) Rix, Terrence (Sara), Kristen (Timothy) Ott, Richard (Staci) Mordew, and Jerime (Sara) Mordew; his grandchildren, Ronald, Laura, Joshua, Ashley, Alexander, Kelsey, John, Kate, Kendall, Kara, Kerrigan, Hannah, Jordyn, Jacob, Jason, Rachel, Emily, Benton, Evie and Archie; three great-grandchildren, Mallory, Cameron and Carson; his sister, Sr. Christine Stanoch and brother, Peter (Shirley), and sister-in-law Mary Stanoch. He leaves behind many close family members who he held dear.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Phillip; sisters-in-laws Wanda Smith and Sharon Dean (nee Smith); his son-in law, Edward Rose; and, three grandchildren, Michael, Amy and Henry.
